Jordan Kyrou Trade Destinations: Odds For Blues Winger To Be Moved At Trade Deadline

Fact Checked by Nate Hamilton

The NHL’s trade deadline is rapidly approaching, and many of the names being bandied about as trade candidates are either soon-to-be free agents or young prospects. That’s not the case with Jordan Kyrou of the St. Louis Blues.

Kyrou, 26, is a seven-year veteran and one of the top goal scorers likely to be available, having scored 24 goals through 59 games this season. What makes Kyrou different is that he’s in the second year of an eight-year contract with an average annual value of $8.1 million.

Typically, a player like that isn’t considered a trade candidate. However, reports are circulating out of St. Louis that the team’s front office wants to make some changes to a team that, as of Thursday, is five points back of the Vancouver Canucks for the last wild card in the Western Conference.

This is also the last year of Kyrou’s contract that doesn’t include a no-trade clause, meaning, the Blues wouldn’t need his approval to move him.

With all that in mind, BetMissouri.com used its Missouri sports betting mindset and developed the following odds on where Kyrou will be playing after the March 7 trade deadline passes.

While we think the Blues will be sellers at the NHL trade deadline, we also believe Kyrou likely will not be among the players moved at the deadline. It’s more probable that forward Brayden Schenn or goalie Jordan Binnington, who won the 4 Nations Face-Off for Canada earlier this month with his outstanding play in the final, are dealt and Kyrou remains as a building block.

But if Kyrou moves, it won’t surprise us if he goes to the Buffalo Sabres. Buffalo is last in the Eastern Conference, thanks to a 13-game losing streak from Nov. 27 to Dec. 21 that essentially ended their season.

So why would the Sabres be buyers? The Sabres missed the playoffs by just seven points last season and by a mere point in 2022-23. The team’s front office and fans went into this season with optimism before the major skid.

Since then, the team’s play has drastically improved. Buffalo is 13-8-1 over the last 22 games. They’re still in last place but appear to be a markedly different team, and they have talented players. Center Tage Thompson averages a point a game, and defenseman Rasmus Dahlin has 37 assists this season. Buffalo trading for Kyrou would signal their intent to be a playoff contender next season.
