Trey Smith Free Agent Odds

Fact Checked by Nate Hamilton

The Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl odds for next season are strong, as oddsmakers don’t see a dropoff for a team that has won the past three AFC Championships and two Super Bowls in that span.

But the Chiefs, just like every other NFL team, have some decisions to make in the offseason.

One of the main points of free agency conversation right now, Chiefs offensive lineman Trey Smith is in line for a big contract. BetMissouri.com developed odds projecting his next team. According to several outlets, Chiefs general manager Brett Veach said on Tuesday at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis that the team is “pretty optimistic” about retaining Smith.

We have the Chiefs at +150 odds of re-signing Smith (or a team outside of our list swooping in to obtain him). That would translate to a 40% implied probability, but even if sports betting were legal in Missouri already, you would only see these Trey Smith free agent odds at BetMissouri.com.

Trey Smith’s NFL Resume

The fact that Trey Smith made it to the NFL at all is remarkable. His story is even more impressive when you consider that the 6-foot-6, 321-pound guard has missed only one game in four NFL seasons and has started 67 of Kansas City’s past 68 regular-season games, plus all 13 playoff games in that span.

When Smith was in college at Tennessee, he missed part of his sophomore season in 2018 when he was diagnosed with blood clots in his lungs. He played well for the Volunteers in 2019 and 2020 but still fell to the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft, where the Chiefs chose him No. 226 overall.

Smith has gone on to be a solid part of Kansas City’s offensive line and was a Pro Bowl selection for the first time in the 2024 season. Pro Football Focus graded him as the No. 14 guard in the league (out of 135) and had him listed as not giving up a sack all season while playing every one of 1,114 offensive snaps.

In neighboring Kansas, BetMGM Sportsbook has the Chiefs at +750 odds to win Super Bowl 60 in February 2026. That’s behind only the Philadelphia Eagles (+650), who dethroned the Chiefs as world champions on Feb. 9 in Super Bowl 59, and the Baltimore Ravens (+700). K.C. is even with the Buffalo Bills on the operator’s futures board.

Who Might Pursue Trey Smith?

The impending Trey Smith free agent status is a question the Chiefs must tackle because his four-year rookie contract has run its course.

According to Spotrac.com, Smith’s market value is about $19.7 million, a significant hike from the $3.366 million he earned last season.

Among teams that might pursue Smith, we have the Tennessee Titans as the most likely at +550 odds. Not only could they bring Smith back to his native state, where he played college ball, but the Titans could use the help up front. Profootballnetwork.com ranked Tennessee at No. 28 among O-lines in the 2024 season and the Titans were No. 26 in total offense.

We think the Minnesota Vikings (+650 odds), the Chicago Bears and the Houston Texans (each +800) are the next likeliest teams that could pursue Smith if the Chiefs decide he doesn’t fit in their plans.
