We’re less than two weeks into the sport’s regular season, but it’s never too early to start compiling odds on which MLB manager will get axed first.

As we await legal Missouri sports betting to launch, we think a host of baseball skippers are on the hot seat this season. With that in mind, BetMissouri.com broke down odds for which man will be out of a job first, with the fourth-year leader of the St. Louis Cardinals sitting atop our chart.

Which MLB Manager Will Be Fired First?

After three-plus seasons in the Gateway City, Oliver Marmol of the Cardinals appears to be entering “now or never” territory. St. Louis has missed the playoffs in each of the past two seasons and is off to a sluggish 4-6 start in 2025 after Monday’s 8-4 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates.

That’s part of the reason we have Marmol atop our first MLB firing odds of the 2025 campaign, at +450, which translates to an 18.2% implied probability. The fourth-year Cards manager is leading Bud Black of the Colorado Rockies (+550), Rocco Baldelli of the Minnesota Twins (+600), plus Dave Martinez of the Washington Nationals and Ron Washington of the Los Angeles Angels, who both check in at +800 to be fired first in 2025.

Marmol’s seat has warmed exponentially, making St. Louis Cardinals World Series odds an iffy proposition in 2025. St. Louis has posted a .475 winning percentage over the last two seasons, which amps up the pressure on the first-time manager as the Cards battle through the team’s slow start.

Based on early odds from DraftKings Sportsbook, it seems like the future’s not looking too bright for Marmol, either, with the Cardinals holding +650 odds of winning the NL Central. That’s third behind the Chicago Cubs (+105) and Milwaukee Brewers (+235), with St. Louis holding the sixth-longest postseason odds of any team in the NL, at +370.

Other managerial firing candidates to keep an eye on this baseball season outside out of St. Louis include John Schneider of the Toronto Blue Jays and Derek Shelton of the Pittsburgh Pirates, who clock in at +1100 apiece, while Brandon Hyde of the Baltimore Orioles rounds out the list at +1500. They would be considered longshots if this prop were offered at Missouri sportsbook apps.

Locally, all eyes are on St. Louis’ fourth year skipper, as the Cardinals look to turn the tide on a poor start under the leadership of Marmol in 2025.
